An online event hosted by Chris Briscoe and Debbie Russell.

Organized by the Canadian Professional Disc Jockey Association.

October 2020

To say that the year 2020 is defined by challenges and time for self reflection would be an understatement. A variety of social issues become more well known in 2020, in sharper focus and of more discussion than our generation has ever known. The social change the world currently requires is a topic that companies, organizations and people can no longer sit on the sidelines for.

At the encouragement from Canadian DJs, through the observations of the association leadership team and because of music's unique relationship to people from a very broad set of backgrounds, on October 20, 2020, the Canadian Professional Disc Jockey Association organized a conversation around the topic of social change.

We know this brings a wide variety of feelings to the surface. That is why this special online event was created and the recording posted here for you to experience.

Hosted by CPDJA member Chris Briscoe and Executive Committee member Debbie Russell, Our Role in Creating Social Change: An Open Forum sought to create a safe space for all of us to learn from one another. Together, we learned from the lived experience and perspectives of one another in what was an inclusive environment for all.

To a great extent, our livelihoods as DJs have been built on the struggles of marginalized members of our society. We learned about the incredible connections our industry has to the topic of diversity in peoples and why this is such an important matter for each of us to understand and the part we play in it.

Through the live experience of the call, we all grew, learned and become better for one another and for our communities. Through the viewing of this Replay that you will soon be watching, we hope that same experience arrives for you. Please share your thoughts on this call and let us keep this conversation moving forward for the betterment of all.
