"I count myself lucky to be a member of the CPDJA. I truly love the sense of community the organization instills in its members and the industry at large. It's a great venue to find mentors, and to mentor others, which helps you evolve not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level."

Property and Liability Insurance Information
The CPDJA strongly encourages all members to carry insurance to protect the functional operations of their work as a DJ.
At a minimum, carrying commercial general liability insurance protects your work and business against claims for bodily injury and property damage to third parties arising from your work as an event DJ. There are many unexpected things that can happen at a public or private event. With increasing frequency, event venues all over Canada are requiring any DJ working on their premises to carry liability insurance. Having liability insurance protects your business from potentially going out of business.
In addition, property (equipment) insurance is also very valuable to ensure equipment replacement after theft, destruction or other events that might compromise the integrity of the gear you need for your events (sound, lighting, video equipment, etc.).
The CPDJA insurance programs are not designed to be the cheapest on the market; they are designed to have the most comprehensive coverage for available for Canadian DJs. Even so, the CPDJA negotiates group insurance programs that are generally 25% - 75% cheaper than a policy an individual DJ might be able to acquire on their own.
Anyone can read about the insurance programs here, but access to purchasing the programs is reserved for our Professional Members only. The two basic types of insurance the CPDJA has available are:
Property and Liability ($250 + tax)
Liability only ($150 + tax)
The Liability Only program is purchased directly through the CPDJA head office and has a universal expiry date of December 31st (regardless of what it was purchased in the year). Renewal notice for this policy will come out 4 - 8 weeks prior to the expiry date.
The Property (Equipment) and Liability program is administered entirely by Erb & Erb Insurance Brokers. The application form and payment is submitted directly to them. This program will have annual renewal date of August 1st. All policies will come up for renewal prior to this date. All insurance purchased within this program, before or after that renewal date, will have their insurance rate prorated (calculated based on the date of application and the next annual renewal date) until they come into line with the annual group policy renewal date.
The sign up processes for each of these two programs are different. Professional Members have access to apply for either program from within the Members Only area of this website.
